Safety at Unbound

Connect openly. Stay in control.

Meeting someone new should come with choices, boundaries, and tools that put you in control of your experience. Unbound combines verification, privacy controls, intentional connections, and safety tools designed to help create a more trusted community.

Safety is shared: we build the tools, and our community helps uphold the standard.

Verification

Safety starts before you connect.

Unbound requires members to complete multiple verification steps before receiving full access to discovery and connections.
01

Identity

Helps confirm that an account belongs to a real person.

02

Age

Unbound is strictly for adults 18+.

03

Liveness

Helps confirm that verification is being completed by a live person.

04

Profile Photo

Helps connect the verified member with the profile they present.

05

Email

Confirms access to the email associated with the account.

06

Phone

Confirms control of a phone number, which can only be linked to one account. Your number is never shown to other members.

07

Location

Helps establish your general location for discovery without displaying exact GPS coordinates to other members.

Verification adds an important layer of trust — but it isn't a guarantee of someone's intentions, behavior, compatibility, or personal claims.

Relationship status and relationship style are self-declared and are not verified by Unbound.

Privacy by design

Your privacy is part of your safety.

Unbound is designed to give you meaningful control over what you share and who can reach you.

Approximate location

Exact GPS coordinates are not displayed to other members. Discovery uses coarse location and approximate distance.

Profile visibility

You can control whether your profile is visible to others.

Private photos

Photos can be public, blurred, or private. Private access can be shared with an eligible connection and revoked when appropriate.

Presence controls

Choose whether other members can see your recent activity.

Audience controls

Define the kinds of people you're comfortable being discovered and contacted by.

Being discoverable shouldn't mean giving up control.

Discovery works both ways

Who can find you matters, too.

Most discovery experiences focus only on who you want to see. Unbound adds another layer: who you're comfortable being seen by.

Browsing preferences help determine who you'd like to discover. Audience preferences help determine who may discover or contact you.

This mutual approach is designed to make discovery more intentional before anyone reaches out.

Connection before conversation

No random inbox access.

Discovering your profile doesn't automatically give someone access to your messages. Someone expresses interest through a connection request — sharing the kind of connection they're interested in and, optionally, a short introduction.

Messaging begins after a connection is accepted.

Your safety tools

Your space. Your boundaries.

Hide

Quietly move on.

Hide someone when you don't want to appear in each other's discovery. They are not notified. Hiding is not the same as blocking.

End connection

A connection isn't permanent.

End an active connection whenever you choose. This removes access to the conversation and revokes applicable private-photo access.

Block

Stop interaction.

Blocking removes profile and discovery access between you, prevents connection requests, ends an active connection, removes conversation access, and revokes private-photo access. Unblocking does not automatically restore a previous connection or private access.

Report

Tell us when something isn't right.

Report harassment, inappropriate content, scams, impersonation, suspected underage use, threats, or other serious concerns. Reports are not shown to the reported member through normal app functionality.

Reporting & moderation

Reports are reviewed. Serious issues can lead to action.

Unbound provides moderation tools for reviewing reported behavior and responding when action is warranted. Depending on the circumstances, action may include:
  • Additional review
  • Requiring verification again
  • Addressing a profile photo
  • Account suspension
  • Account removal

If someone is in immediate danger or you believe a crime has occurred, contact local emergency services or the appropriate authorities. Unbound's reporting tools are not a replacement for emergency assistance.

Consent & boundaries

Connection is not consent.

A connection request is not consent.

Accepting a connection is not consent to anything beyond connecting.

Sharing a private photo does not give someone permission to redistribute it.

Meeting in person doesn't create an obligation to stay.

Previous consent doesn't mean future consent.

Consent should be clear, voluntary, specific, and ongoing. Anyone can change their mind.

Respect the boundary. Every time.

Protect your information

Share thoughtfully.

Getting to know someone often means sharing more over time. You decide the pace. Avoid sharing sensitive information too quickly, including:
  • Home or work address
  • Financial information
  • Passwords or verification codes
  • Government identification
  • Answers commonly used for account-recovery questions
  • Other highly sensitive personal information

Unbound will never need your password or authentication code through another member.

Anything shared digitally can potentially be captured or redistributed outside the app. Choose carefully when sharing private information or media.

Watch for scams

If money enters the conversation, slow down.

Be cautious when someone:

  • Quickly asks for money
  • Requests gift cards or cryptocurrency
  • Claims an emergency that requires payment
  • Requests banking or payment credentials
  • Pressures you into an investment
  • Pushes to move the conversation elsewhere immediately for suspicious reasons
  • Uses threats, intimate material, or personal information to demand money

Never send money because someone you met on Unbound pressures you to do so.

If you suspect a scam, block and report the member.

Meeting in person

Take the connection offline on your terms.

When you're ready to meet someone in person, a few simple choices can give you more control.

01

Meet publicly first

Choose a populated location you're comfortable with for an initial meeting.

02

Tell someone

Let a trusted person know where you're going and who you're meeting.

03

Control your transportation

Have your own way to arrive and leave whenever possible.

04

Keep personal information personal

You don't need to share your home address or other sensitive details before you're comfortable.

05

Stay aware

Be mindful of alcohol or anything else that may affect your judgment.

06

Leave when you want to

You don't owe anyone additional time, explanation, physical contact, or another meeting.

You can change your mind at any point.

Location safety

Approximate by design.

Unbound may use device location during verification and discovery, but other members are not shown your exact GPS coordinates. Distances in the app are approximate and should never be read as someone's exact location.

Unbound may also use location-related security signals to help identify suspicious activity.

Account & device security

Protect your account, too.

  • Use a strong, unique password
  • Never share your password
  • Never share authentication or verification codes
  • Keep your device protected
  • Review your active sessions when something looks unfamiliar
  • Log out devices you no longer recognize or use
  • Keep the Unbound app updated

Unbound uses account and device signals to help identify suspicious activity and may require additional verification when warranted.

If something doesn't feel right

You don't need a reason to step away.

You can hide someone, end a connection, or block them whenever you choose.

You don't have to continue a conversation because you previously responded.

You don't have to meet because you previously agreed.

You don't have to explain a boundary before enforcing it.

Trust your judgment. Use the tools available to you.

Community responsibility

Safety is something we build together.

Unbound provides verification, privacy controls, moderation, blocking, reporting, and other safeguards.

Members help protect the community by communicating honestly, respecting boundaries, protecting other people's privacy, and reporting behavior that may put others at risk.

Freedom works when boundaries matter.

Unbound is built to give adults more freedom in how they connect — while giving them meaningful control over who they meet, what they share, and when they step away.
